Responsibilities include: creating year long coaching programs and daily schedules for male and female cyclists from the recreational to elite level to meet their athletic goals, weekly calls, daily emails and texts providing motivation, instruction and tactical coaching; assistance in creating appealing cycling resumes, as well as secure cycling jobs and/or sponsorships. I also work with teams managing athletes, providing tactics for races, creating and implementing team building exercises and assisting in marketing the team to potential sponsors.

I also run women only as well as co-ed clinics and series to teach all levels of cyclists how to ride safely (correct helmet placement, hand signals, as well as braking and shifting correctly), repair and care for their bicycles (general maintenance, washing, checking for wear, shifting adjustment and brake adjustment), ride in a safe group formation (pace-line), and how to dress properly for different weather situations. I also cover nutrition and hydration as well as provide a daily training schedule.

The first portion of these clinics, whether one day or 8 weeks, include bike safety inspection which includes teaching clinic participants how to take off and put back on their wheels, how to check their brakes, tire pressure, make sure their helmets are fit correctly, and check for basic adjustments to ensure they have a safe ride. These are anywhere from one day clinics to eight week series. I have had over 300 people run through my clinics in the past 6 years. I have run these clinics through three bicycle retailers in the Santa Rosa area: in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 with NorCal Bike Sport, in 2009, 2010, and 2011 with West County Revolution and Echelon Cycle and Multi Sport.

I have been affiliated with the following teams as either General Manager or Director: Peanut Butter & Co. TWENTY 12, Proman Women’s Professional Cycling Team, Quark, Saturn (men’s and women’s) Cycling Team, Timex Multi Sport Team, Timex Women’s Professional Cycling Team. I have worked with local teams Metromint and Velo Girls on tactics and skills.

I pride myself at being considered a spokes-person for women’s road racing in the US and am now utilized within the cycling industry as a consultant for products. I have been called upon as an expert in the industry in magazines such as “Parenting,” “CA Outdoor,” “Horizon Air,” “Bicycling,” several newspapers leading into races, as well as within the industry “VeloNews,” and “CyclingNews.com.” With the assistance of Dave LaPorte I also founded the Women’s Prestige Series and the Yoplait Women’s Summit.

As Director of this Team I am responsible for athlete planning, scheduling and management. I work with the Director of Athletics at USA Cycling to ensure all of our team members are preparing correctly for the US World Championships and Olympic Games. Each of our athletes from 15 – 38 are long listed for either the Junior World Championships, Elite World Championships and/or Olympic Games. I will lead these athletes through many drills on the bike, as well as ensure they know how to check their bikes for safety, regardless of if our mechanic has worked on the bike or not.

As the Director of the Women’s Saturn Cycling Team and Assistant Director of the Men’s Saturn Cycling Team, I was responsible for athlete scheduling, programming, race tactics, coaching, and athlete recruitment. Under my directorship the Saturn Women’s Team was ranked #1 in the world 2 consecutive years, as well as winning the Women’s World Cup Series 2 years consecutively. The Men’s Team was the Number One Team in the US two years running and with both teams we qualified 10 athletes for the Olympics as well as won several National and World Championship titles.
As Director, I was also responsible for evaluating an crash in order to assist our mechanic in being able to determine the cause of the crash. This information was often requested by our sponsors as well as the athletes themselves, the hospital, the General Manager of Team Sports, and the media. I needed to take into consideration the terrain, weather conditions, skid marks, the equipment itself, the rider’s helmet, clothing, glasses and shoes, as well as the recounts of the other riders in order to determine approximately what happened. Frequently I was behind the crash in the support/Team car and witnessed the crash from the back. I became quite accustomed to knowing when a crash was about to happen, and was required to give a concise and accurate recount and assessment following.

I also lead instructional rides once a week (weather depending) throughout the 4 years which included teaching riders how to be safe on the road, in and around traffic and other riders, and how to handle their bikes in less than ideal situations. I also taught riders how to shift properly ride in a pace-line properly, as well gave information on hydration and nutrition.
